There are two technical portions of the Orderville Canyon require rope, the longest drop is just 15 feet, which makes it a great entry point for beginner canyoneers. Zion Canyon, one of two dozen in Zion National Park in southern Utah, may be the most famous slot canyon in the Southwest, but the Upper Antelope may be the most photographed! The hues of the sandstone are the richest in the early morning and late afternoon, although if you’d like to take in the canyon’s famous beams of light, heading in starting around high noon is best — especially during the summer. The Central Utah Slot Canyons are located in a remote and seldom seen portion of Palo Duro Canyon. The beautiful rock structures are found in a series of three slot canyons – Upper, Middle, and Lower Slots. This is a view of the Lower Slot Canyon as warm morning sunlight filters in through the sandstone walls.

On the east side of the reservoir, below a bench of black lava blocks, is the tall western face of the Red Mountains, an extensive Navajo sandstone exposure that extends five miles into Snow Canyon State Park. The land on the west side of the park has lower relief, and is crossed by a few branched drainages of which Manganese Wash is the largest.
